I Lost but I Loved

Well I once loved a gal, a long time ago
Her skin was a soft shining bronze
I don't’ know where she is today
I don’t know where she’s gone.

And the surf still rolls on the beach where we met
In the moments just preceding dawn
When she first smiled at me,with those white diamond teeth,
And her eyes like a newly born fawn.

And if I had the power to change things
I’d have her the way that she was
And I know I won’t see that gal anymore
And it’s true that I lost, but I loved

And I know that somewhere, she’s free as the wind
I know just as sure as I stand
And I know that her eyes, of the deepest jade green
Are now haunting some other man

And if I had the power to change things
I’d have her the way that she was
And I know I won’t see that gal anymore
And it’s true, that I lost, but I loved
